Garrett, Papa Bear and Future Teen Star

We drove out to Pleasant Hill last night to watch Garrett in his first grade music class production.  I knew he was going to be Papa Bear, just didn't know he had the male lead.  Not lead from his class, but the entire grade.  He looked so cute with his tan courderoy pants, brown shirt and brown ski cap with bear ears sewn in.

Before heading over to the high school auditorium, I asked Garrett if he knew his first line.  He recited it to me perfectly.  He knew exactly what he was doing and had the confidence of a pro.

I was so excited when he had a duet with Mama Bear.  I didn't know he could sing!  He sang perfectly in pitch and without hesitation.  I fully encourage him to continue his talents and see where it takes him, or Susan, since she's the one who'd have to do all the driving to rehearsals and events.

We sat in the balcony to watch the performance.  And when I say 'we', I mean we.  There was Grandpa Canaan, Grandma Canaan, Daddy Paul, Mommy Sue, Papa, Aunt Julie, Uncle Kevin, Tonti, Uncle Tim, Aunt Carol, Gayle, Evan, Alex, Elizabeth, William, Joliana, Tommy, Jack, and Ryan.  It was so cute so see all the little cousins lined up on the front row of the balcony peeking over watching their cousin Garrett. They were just as proud as the adults were.

I watched Paul as he paid close attention to his oldest on the high school stage where Paul is Asst Principal.  I could see the pride Paul had in his son.  While I didn't know Pleasant Hill was a town beyond Susan & Paul's house, it was obvious that everyone in there knew that was Mr. Canaan, the Principal.  Susan held her video camera and I don't think she stopped smiling once.

Even with the chaos of raising three small children and careers, the love they share shines like a bright light over their heads.  To top it all off, they are pretty people.   I like to introduce them as "this is Susan, Paul, Garrett, Joliana, and Ryan; aren't they beautiful?!"  More importantly, they are beautiful souls.  They are a fortunate family, hope they know it.

Susan had a pot of chili for everyone to have a bite to eat and the boys and I were last to leave the house since Garrett needed to get there early.  Tim, Julie, Kevin, Larry and Gayle went to the KC Royals season opener and were hurrying to make it to the high school in time.  As I was putting Jack's shoes on, he was asking where we were going.  I told him, "to watch Garrett's play."  Jack asked, "What? Basketball?"  I said, "no."  He asked again, "What? Baseball?" I responded, "no."  Again, he asked, "What? Soccer?"  I thought, how can I answer this question, since he has never been to a play, and the fact that I said Garrett and play in the same sentence, could only mean sports to Jack.  So, after his soccer question, I said, "I'll explain later, you'll see."  Jack ended the conversation with, "What? Football?"  I gave up and by then his shoes were on and tied. Out the door we went to the 'play', as I laughed at my youngest.  He really is funny.

So, as I sit here finally having a chance to write, I can hear my own chaos coming from the shower.  William and Jack are taking a shower and I think there will be a cry soon.  yep, hang on......oh, good, not as bad as I thought.

I really should be studying my language for tomorrow's meeting. Best get going since it's already 9 PM.

Tim got the boys in their jammies and Jack just ran in to give me a kiss goodnight.  I reached over to kiss  him and he was making spit bubbles as he puckered up.  I wiped them off, said 'no', and gave him a quick smooch.....off he ran in Evan's old Power Rangers jammies.  Jack  is going to his bed and watching Scooby Doo before falling asleep. William gets one quarter to play Playstation 2's NCAA football.  If I hear that NMSU Aggie fight song one more time, I will scream.  For some reason, William can get the Aggies to beat the opponents 63 -3 on Playstation 2 and after each good play or score, I get to hear "Aggies O  Aggies, the Hills Send Back the Cry, We're Here to Do or Die......."   Maybe Boston McKinley should hire William as the Aggies Head Football Coach. Hmmmm, who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Blessings!
